My first ever post on youtube
This is the greatest TV intro I think I’ve ever seen. It’s from a pretty interesting show … Deadliest Catch …. and it my first video on youtube. Enjoy.

Another day passes, and again I’m the wearier for it.
Today I’m also slightly seedy owing to a few beers to celebrate the news of Mint’s ultrasound, or as it’s pronounced in Thai, “undersound”. There are quite a few words, now that I think of it that when “borrowed” into Thai, the pronounciation changes. “Watson’s” (the name of a pharmacy here) is “Wassons”, “Emporium” becomes “Emporlian”.
Oh, it’s a boy!
… but he left for work 5 minutes ago.”

Mint is on her way to Chiang Mai, which means I’ve got two days of living da vida loca. And I have plans, let me assure you of that. I’m meeting someone today for coffee who may actually become a friend in Thailand, but with plans now full steam ahead to move to Chiang Mai once our lease here is up, I’m not sure what the point is. We’re initially meeting to discuss some business, so that may live on at least.
Also, I won a free jug of Margarita at a Mexican place so tonight it’s dinner and drunken-ness.
And work is still on, of course. I have to fit that in somewhere.
To be realistic, only my mother will find this as hilarious as I thought it was, but I’m posting it anyway:
“Just we go เดิน (walk) and see dog. Dog say “huong huong huong huong huong!” (dogs don’t “woof” in Thailand, they “huong”). You say “stupid dog! Why you huong my girlfriend?” Three years ที่แล้ว (ago), then we go เดิน (walk) again, see dog, dog say “huong huong huong huong huong!” You say “stupid girlfriend! Why you want dog huong you?”
I’ve just finished reading “The Devil Wears Prada” by Lauren Weisberger. I also watched the movie, which is very, very bad in comparison to the book, and teaches entirely different lessons. I know practically nothing about fashion, but I had a suspicion that the book was based around Vogue editor Anna Wintour. After watching the movie and reading some bits on IMDB, not only was it based around Anna Wintour, but the author Lauren Weisberger WORKED AS AN ASSISTANT for her! Other trivia was that Wintour allegedly threatened designers with banishment from the page of Vogue if they appeared in the movie, although she also showed a sense of humour by attending the premiere, dressed head-to-toe in Prada.
Poor Bek and Brett have had some (minor in the scheme of things) disaster befall them lately: breksblog.blogspot.com for the details. It reminds me to whinge on my blog about my own hassles with my flights. I have one leg of an expensive ticket left, from BKK - BNE, booked 30-Jun-08. When asked how much to extend that leg beyond that date, I have been quoted 41,300B … around AU$1,400. That’s clearly too much, when a return ticket is only slightly more than that, so the goal is now to get a partial refund on the ticket, for that leg only. Wish me luck.
It seems that the new blog version doesn’t handle subscriptions properly. Great. I have just reset some options and screwed around with something and we’ll see I guess if this makes a difference.
Most exciting news is that the rogue US$50 note has been exchanged! I persisted in trying many, many (many) exchange places and eventually one guy accepted it, laughed at the biro mustache and swapped it right over.
I’m stoked.
I have a theory.
In my mind, the best salads are those in which you’re not just eating lettuce until you get to the end and there are all these tasty bits left. The best salads are where the lettuce-eating-boringness is offset by frequent explosions of flavour of the tasty bits. The key seems to be the size of the components.
If you have a salad in which all components are prefabricated into 1cm square pieces, you can get the optimum mix, and the least likelihood of having to eat lettuce by itself. Any smaller than that, you might as well chuck it in a blender, which would probably suck, but note to self, worth a try some time.
If anyone saw the blog post last week where I posted that Ninemsn had Santos recommended as a “reduce”, you’ll be eye-rolling at Money magazine this month (also published by Ninemsn), which has Santos as a “buy”. Goes to show I guess that ultimately nobody really knows what they’re doing? hahaha.
And it’s Nadia’s birthday tomorrow. Hopefully R&N should have Ken back today or tomorrow too.
There are exactly three things I am into at the moment.
The first is I have started rewatching The Outer Limits, which is great. I used to love that show, and frequently curse Channel 7 like a sailor when they changed programming at the last minute and showed some other crap instead. There’s a different face in each episode that you recognize from much later in their careers. Natasha Henstridge, the slutty one from Sex in the City, Fred Savage, and the list goes on.
The second is that today I bought a phone card. After months of struggling with Skype Out and my haphazrd internet connection, I can now safely say that I can call Australia easily and cheaply … I think its 2 baht per minute to landlines in Australia, around AU$0.07 per minutes, which is more expensive than Skype’s $0.0297 per minute, but infinitely higher call quality, and does Skype have a connection fee? I’m not sure. I’ll probably continue with the routine I developed today: trying first with Skype, and if it fails I will swear at it harshly, and then use the phone card.
The third is, unbelievably, South Park. As it’s aged, it’s become more social-commentary in nature. According to the Wiki page for it, because the show is almost exclusively computer-animated, most episodes are finished in 6 days, or as few as 3. I think this allows the show to remain topical and fresh. Having just read the Wikipedia page completely, I can verify that South Park mentioned the Saddam capture 3 days after it happened, which is amazing for any weekly TV show, let alone an animated cartoon.
I may be the most annoying person in the world to watch TV with in another language:
who’s that?
are they a boy or a girl?
who’s that?
is he her father?
why are they sad?
who died?
Until the TV was turned off and TV watching was declared “over”.
Godfrey briefly took the lead in the stock market game, but we’re back to situation normal and I’m back on top baby. Interesting to note that Ninemsn has Santos (STO) down with recommendation to “Reduce” and I thought “for sure, that must be a share that Glenn has” but he doesn’t.
