Crate proud

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I don’t know how many times I’ve had to check this, so I’m writing it down for posterity here:
my flight is very early on the 01-Sep, which is to say early Saturday morning. NOT FRIDAY MORNING.

Things are going well - Woo and I (with some assistance from Dad) made a wooden crate for my big computer, and it’s great. Foam packed, and sturdy. I will post pictures later, I’m that proud of it.

Tonight is dinner with Rob Wilson and tomorrow is Danielle’s birthday. Busy social calendar what? Mum is having more surgery today, so I have to get my visit in before around 2pm. I should take Mum photos of my crate. She’ll love that.

Oh, and Rhys has asked me to MC his wedding. Anyone who knows why that’s funny needs to shut their mouth before he finds out the last wedding I was asked to MC I arrived a week late. That kinda thing doesn’t need to get out aight?

i wanna be sedated

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Hey everyone, only 11 more sleeps till I head off to Thailand. Still between now and then Mum has to get out of hospital, have to hit Danielle’s birthday party, get a ring sorted out … and, in the latest addition to that list: go to a market research evening tomorrow. Woot!

I go to those things every now and then … this time it’s on the subject of “Eating Out” and essentially pays $60 and a $30 dining out voucher. Good deal! That’s this Tuesday, very important I don’t forget.

On the weekend, I visited Mum in hospital, caught a movie and dinner with Danielle, watched the footy with Blacky and a different footy with Leyton, had lunch with Woo, had Sunday Lunch Club at Cannon Hill and got up-to-date with Pirate Master. So it was pretty busy, and pretty social. I had a good weekend, all told.

The movie I saw with Danielle was “I now pronounce you Chuck & Larry” which was stupid and too long. We had dinner at Scherazade. It was disappointing to see the “Baby Broncos” come so close to pulling a draw/win out, only to be beaten by a point. It was great to see the Lions stick in there and finish with a draw. Noodle Box at Enoggera is nowhere near as good as Noodle Box Fairfield. Pirate Master is an awesome show that should never have been cancelled. Jay to win!

got my visa

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Hey everyone, hope your week is going great. I got my Non-Immigrant “B” Visa for Thailand today, so that’s pretty cool :)
Breakfast with Rob W tomorrow, Glenn are you also free to hot-seat it? Sunday Lunch Club is BACK ON this weekend, so free up your mornings.

Cyanide and Happiness, a daily webcomic

of life and rings

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

So just lately I’ve been thinking about - and looking at - engagement rings. Prior to this week, I’d always thought that the “formula” for determining how much to spend on a ring for your intended was 2 x month’s salary. Brett thought it was 3, but he doesn’t earn anything anyway. It turns ot we’re both brainwashed by the DeBeers marketing people - 2 months is what they promoted in Australia and the UK, 3 months is what they promoted in Japan and the USA if my research is correct.

One quote that made me laugh:
Pricey engagement rings are a throwback to a dark age when a wife needed tangible insurance against abandonment, and diamond engagement rings were an invention of DeBeers from the early 20th century, or thereabouts. No, sorry, they have not symbolized love for thousands of years. MacDonald’s recommends that you supersize your fries, too.

Mint has been looking for apartments in the “ex pat” area of Bangkok, and she thinks she’s found a good one. I’ll post pictures when I get them if you want.

Mum is still in hospital, but has been getting consistently better, which is good. I’ll make sure to keep up daily visits until she’s released, which should help with the boredom of lying around all day.

Engaged

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I’m pleased to announce - officially, on the blog - that Mint and I are now engaged. We don’t have dates or anything yet. Please don’t ask.

And, my surgery’s been postponed again. Now I have to consider having the ability to actually do stuff before I go back to Thailand. For example, I could take a week or two and dedicate it to vacating my apartment completely, ready for sale.

Mum’s had some post-surgery complications, so she’s back in hospital, poor thing. This is another reminder that I could be quite miserable myself after my surgery. Perhaps putting it off isn’t such a bad thing.

I have an excuse

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Dudes, please note that I will be home tomorrow evening, around 9pm.

So I promised a couple of people updates yesterday, but I have a good excuse for not posting: I only had one potential thing potentially worth posting about, and, essentially, I chickened out doing that thing, so had nothing to post about. How’s that for a waste of a paragraph?

I am pleased to report, however, that I am clean shaven, the owner of a few new shirts, and I’ve had my funky munky jeans taken in a few inches. It’s a sorry excuse for a blog post, but c’mon - I’m on holidays and not doing very much. My reading list for this trip is quite impressve, although I think Snod should apologize for putting me through 600 pages of lameness with David Gemmell’s “Troy”.
