feelin’ fine

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Hey everyone, just wanted to rap atcha real quick and say that I’m doing great here in Thailand. Want to wish Mum “GL” for her surgery tomorrow, and “GL” to Dad in havng to step up to “fill in” for Mum while she’s incapacitated.

Thanks to Brek for visiting. I don’t think they bought a camera, but if they do, I’ll post photos of their visit.

bon voyage to me

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

So, I’m off. Tonight, I’m getting the hell out of dodge, so to speak. Thailand. It’ll be great.

My casual internet reading will have a chance to catch up completely, and I’ll be well read in the ways of whatever I choose to read.

Thanks to Rob and Nadia for dinner last night. Unfortunately Blacky remembered my half-assed plea for assistance and took the leftovers that were in my fridge this morning. Ah well.

Home on the range

So I forgot to write last week, as is so easy for me to do. I’ve decided that I’m going to Perth in November for the red bull air races. I’ve got at least two weeks annual leave comin up, so that’s what I’ll do for my holiday. Looking into the possibilities, which include camper vans, and flying and staying with friends and family.

The gourmet camp was on the weekend starting Friday night. I had to work Saturday morning though, so I didn’t get there until Saturday afternoon. Somehow the guys neglected to take a few items - they left a bag of groceries at home, so I had to stop at the shops on the way there. My highlight of the weekend was probably the dessert I made on Saturday night - marshmallow ice cream with chocolate drizzled on top.

I forgot to write what exercises I did last week, so here it is if I can remember: 60kg dead lifts, 60kg standing dead lifts, back-lifts & crunches, both with twist. I think that’s all, I can’t really remember.

Can’t wait dudes

Check out this awesome clip from my new favourite comedy show, Flight of the Conchords. I find it hilarious, and I hope you do to.

Was a pretty lame weekend, but that’s ok because I’m going on holidays soon. Can’t wait dudes.

Stupid water

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Well, today sucks. My surgery date got pushed back to 10-Aug (maybe) and I’m officially now on the Optifast and Water diet to shrink my liver for said surgery. It’s going to be a long couple of weeks, I’ve got 4 weeks on fluids after surgery, too, so can you believe how gosh darn lucky I am? I can’t.

However, this may not be all bad. I am in need of a holiday and some distraction, and I wasn’t going to be able to have said holiday with the existing timeline I had. Now, however, I might. I just need to work out if I can afford it …

So last night I had dinner with Rob and Nadia, which was great and luckily enough it was curry, seeing as it’s my last meal for a while. Monday night I took Snod to the airport for him to go back home, and then visited M&D, so the Tuesday family night didn’t seem that neccessary, so I found other plans with Rob and Nadia. The weekend included Christmas in July, and I had a great time. I hope everyone else did too.

Bring on the pain

Tuesday is like Monday for me, in that I have Monday off, so Tuesday is the first day back at work. It’s been a craaazy busy weekend for me. I worked on Saturday as per normal, and afterwards, Deano graciously came over to lend his car to the cause of emptying the trailer. It was full of crap, and someone was coming to borrow it, so it had to be emptied. We’d hoped to fly afterwards, but Dean’s motor mount hadn’t arrived still, so he ended up just going home to prepare for the Christmas in July they did. Mad props as usual to Dean.

That afternoon, Matt and his friend Kyle came over with a buttload of gear to try and start a band. There was some seriously impressive gear - mostly Matt’s. Two quad-box amps with heads and a trace elliot guitar amp with some balls. And Kyle brought over a PA system, which we decided wasn’t necessary. We worked on some songs and generally had a jam, and hopefully we can get some nice sounds.

Sunday was a busy day. I started by doing some washing and cleaning, followed by heading out to Liam’s to have a fly. He’s got a plane similar to one of mine (a bastardised modified flying wing), but a little quicker. I had a bit of a fly of his, and it seems pretty good, though his gear is what’s letting him down. He, however had some troubles but will get there with practice. My wooden plane continues to impress.

And so Monday brought to my attention the lack of clothes. I spent almost all day washing and ironing almost all of the clothes I have. IT took freakin ages. I hate Mondays.

Yesterday’s exercises: 50kg olympic bar horizontal benchpresses, 50kg slight incline olympic bar benchpresses, crapload of body-weight tricep dips, then overhead tricep pull-overs.

So another week is nearly finished. Not much happens for me during the week. On Tuesday night, Dad handed me his ticket for the pipe organ concert that was on at the cathedral. The concert had been organised by one of dad’s mates, Les, who had decided to musically document the life Charles Marie Widor, who was almost a one-hit-wonder of the pipe organ composition, though composed a lot of stuff in his 90+ years. So it was both a musical education as well as an aural delight.

Upon my return home last night, Steve and Ann (our 4th door neighbours) had only minutes earlier, returned from their 5 week trip around the country in their Land Rover Defender. Some of you may not know, but in preparation for this trip, Steve and I were changing the springs, when suddenly, the very same land rover crashed down on my leg. This was the Monday of the May Day long weekend. I got to ride in an ambulance and ride around the hospital in a wheelchair and get x-rays ‘n’ stuff. Cool fun. Fortunately, I’m super tough, so all that happened was soft tissue damage. I went to the physio and actually DID the exercises, so now, my knee is virtually completely recovered - thanks for your concern.

I didn’t stay long, as they’d obviously literally just returned, so I let them settle back in to their house.

So today was work as per usual. Liam called during my lunch break to see if I wanted to go out for a beer. I wouldn’t mind if I didn’t have an 8-5 job. Oh well, but we’re hangin out on Sunday anyway, havin a fly and all that jazz - Liam bought a plane too teehee.

Tonight’s exercise: 60kg dead lifts (craploads), interspersed with 25kg lat pulldowns (craploads of them too), followed by 35kg two-arm bicep curls (lots of these suckers too - are you detecting a theme?), and craploads of 8kg “hammers”. Arms are swollen with blood.

Conspicuous

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

I have been conspicuously absent from these pages of late, fortunately Woo picked up the slack and posted a couple of times. The weekend was good - caught up with Bryce, saw the Transformers movie, played a new flavour of Carcassonne, had “Sunday Roast Lunch” on Saturday with the family, went for a fly, caught up with Godfrey, had a great birthday dinner together at Monte’s, followed by desert at Baskin’s and coffee at the Coffee Club. Who wouldn’t call that a great weekend huh?

And I have a “new” (read: “secondhand”) office chair that is luxuriously comfortable and leathery. And last night Blacky and I had Lefkas for dinner - man I hadn’t been there in ages. It would seem that Monday nights are the best nights to go - it was moderately empty. :o
Oh, and I bought a heat-sealer off ebay. Super-industrial, and to be honest I thought it also had a cutter, but it’s awesome. If you want to play with it next time you’re over just let me know.

I’m pretty keen to go out for coffee or lunch or whatever with whoever will have me. First in, best dressed.

Slaving away

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Well, I’ve had a busy last few days I gotta tell ya! Work occured as per usual on Friday, and I thought it would also occur as per usual on Saturday, however, it became apparent that was not to be the case when my casually employed co-worker failed to turn up. Fortunately, the day wasn’t too busy, and I even got a few minutes to make a cup of tea and/or sit on my arse and wait for customers. Turns out he fell asleep on the train and woke up in Darra - luck him.

That afternoon, Gary and Ro came over for lunch, followed by Dean, Bryce and I going flying. We flew Dean’s plane which wasn’t so bad - he’s still getting used to the new controls. It was hoped that Bryce would be able to have a fly, but on the last fly before handing over to him, Dean crashed hard, breaking his plane for a while. Poor Bryce. So I took the opportunity to fly my plane, and had a merry old time. I was pullin off loops and inverted flight and all that jazz. By this time, Mum and a drunk Ro (thanks to dad) arrived to have a watch. I attempted to hand the controls over to Bryce, but my plane was too temperamental and especially too fast, so Bryce only really got to hold the controls before I had to avoid trees and ground. On the final throw, the plane torque rolled before cartwheeling and snapping shit, as well as cutting a wire to the servo - easy repair though luckily.

Sunday morning Ben (my trainer and cousin Amy’s BF) came over to collect some furniture which ended up being a run to the dump first, followed by lunch, then moving furniture. Got a lot done, but it also took a long time, and energy :P My trailer reversing skills received a good test, backing into B&A’s place, but I romped it in, first go! Go me. I went from there on to an unnoficial work do at a bowls club at Breaky Creek, which was nice, but I lacked enthusiasm due to exhaustion, so I went home to be greeted by B&K&K after a big day at the Gold Coast.

And of course today, I really enjoyed myself just bummin round today, being my day off. I got a few meanial things done before heading off to training, followed by a glorious dinner of lasagne - Props to Amy, followed by heckling big brother.

Tonight’s exercises: 25kg standing pec presses, 20kg dumbell bench press, 12.5kg shoulder press, body-weight tricep dips - presumed weakest link.

I’m starving

Welcome to my second installment for the week of my bloggy. My memory of work is fairly blurry, because it’s work - you know what I’m sayin. We managed to have big sales days without too much running around insanely - it’s great. We’ve done 1/4 of our budget for this month in the first 3 business days. Yay us.

Last night I went over to Dean’s for SoO - the first game of the series I’ve watched. Without fear of being ridiculed, I couldn’t give a flying rabbit’s arse about most sports, let along Rugby League, so last night wasn’t a big exciting event, but it was an entertaining night nonetheless.

Another session with Ben, my trainer, tonight. Even though I’ve been going now for a month or so, we still keep finding niggles and quirks which occasionally bring the evercise of the moment to a halt to evaluate the issue and commence correction.

Tonight’s exercises: Smith-machine squats, standing dead lifts, reverse crunches (for back), stomach crunches.
