Hey dudes - just a quick entry to let you know that I’m now free of hospital, so don’t visit me there anymore :lols: You can still visit at my place if you want. Hey, also, no poker tonight, I’m kinda messed up, and it wasn’t on anyway, if you remember we’d planned a bye.

ok, so I’m in hospital but I just found they have internet on the first floor. Hooray! I don’t expect people to visit, but if you wanted to, is RBH, Ward 9A South, Bed 28. Probably stuck here till Thursday or something.

Practically speaking

Hi all,

I went and met my prac teacher on Friday after school and had a good old chinwag. I’ve got a 3/4 composite class which should be pretty cool I reckon, and I start my 4 week placement there on the 8th of May. I’ll probably go in and hang out in the classroom for a couple of sessions in the following weeks just to acquaint the kids with having me in the class.

In less cool news, Deano came over on Saturday morning complaining of pain in his stomach region. In consultation with the surgeon via phone over the day, we went into the ER at about 8pm to get him seen to. He ended up staying most of the night in the “Acute” section of Emergency, having had a CAT scan, and being brought into a ward at 4am. To his displeasure (particularly due to the discomfort) they found nothing of concern, but are still keeping him overnight again tonight.

Dad went to church this morning for the first time in a while, and it seems to have knocked him around a bit. Karen dropped dad home afterwards, doing the dual purpose of returning Bryce’s car, and Berny came by after counting the money. As always, nice to see them.

I’ve also made some “Rasterbations” (Read that carefully - Raster… RASter…) which are big poster pictures. You input a picture, set it how you want it, and it converts it to a giant picture which you then print out on A4 pages and stick them together. You can do it a couple of ways, and I chose to go with the gaps around each page.

Here’s 2 of the ones I made - bear in mind that the lines represent an A4 page - which I’ll put on my walls when I get my room well and truly sorted.

If I could remember how to make them links, I would, but you may just have to cut and paste them for now. And I’ve got another one in colour that I’ve got to put together, which is of a dancing Elvis on the dash of the old Corolla.

So, today was a productive day. Nicole came over at 10 for work on our paired lesson on space. Mum and Dad were expecting Gary, and he arrived shortly after. We managed to get a few hours solid work in before a hefty lunch of lasagne and salad. Getting back to work after eating is always hard, and this was no exception. We did get it done though, so that’s all good. We’ve just gotta practise our delivery now.

Then after that, I went into uni to do some printing. Some of you may or may not be familiar with a program available on the internet called “Rasterbator”. It takes a picture you upload and blows it up to be poster-sized. I had a few photos in mind, and thought “I’ll only print one out and see how it goes”, because I thought the printers would take ages, but they all printed out (some were full A4 pages of solid black, and in the vicinity of 15 pages) surprisingly quickly, so I printed all four of them. Much quicker, better looking and cost effective than printing on our bubblejet - it barely woulda made it through 1 page before crapping out.

So one is of Jess and I in a recording room at a mate’s house - very cool, another is of a full shelf of beer from when I went to Rocky - for the fridge door, one is of Chazzy in his kennel and it’s so dam cute - I think it’ll reside above my computer when my room’s set up properly. and the last one, which is the only one in colour, is of a dancing Elvis on the dash of the old corolla. It’s pretty dang cool too :D Not sure where I’ll put all of them, but I’ll dam well find a place.

And so Jess came over cos I wanted to show her the pic of us, and she was well impressed.

Oh, and in regards to the title, I received in the mail a lovely “Mobility pack” from the suppliers of my laptop. It was advertised on their website as having bluetooth, when it shouldn’t, so in compensation for their cock-up, they sent me this stuff: Carry case, notebook mouse, flash drive, and maybe something else that I can’t remember. But it’s all really well made - the carry strap rings and buckles are made of real metal, the handle is nicely padded, and it generally seems well made. So, altogether, a really cool day.

Fold under pressure

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Hello, I hope everyone’s doing great. Can you believe it’s Thursday already? Frankly everytime I wake up and realize it’s not the weekend yet, a little piece of me dies. :(
Poker last night, and Blacky did the impossible with wins back-to-back. I picked up a second place last night, and negotiated my way into the money, doubling up my tournament stake of $10 to $20. Blacky took fiddy. The highlight for me was cleaning out Leyton on the first hand he played. We started while he was in the shower, and just folded all his hands until he was ready to join the table. I had KQ and the flop paired my Queen as top pair. Hit trips on the turn and made the full house on the river. Unfortunately, it also made Leyton’s straight, so that finished him up.

I also had a post surgery Dr appointment yesterday, the upshot of which is that I’ve lost 26kg since 04/Jan, which I’m pretty pleased with. I’ve also discovered the joys that can be had with tins of soup and a blender :) The more expensive canned soups are actually not so bad, and when blended to a liquid are - in some cases - even better. Today I blew $30 on soup. Hehe, that’ll get me sick of soups in a pretty short space of time.

Anyway, it’s Brenden day at work today, so I’d better get back to it or he’ll sack me. :p

Hey mofoniums. I got a Perf meeting real soon that I have to go to, but I’ve just got enough time to quickly rattle out a blog entry reminding peeps about poker tonight. My place, 7pm.

I’ve just finished reading the new Lee Child book: The Hard Way. Yes, Godez, it’s already in the mail to you :p Man I love Lee Child books.

My wound is a bit sore today, but the surgeon’s looking at it, post-operatively today anyway, so that works. Family night last night, Mum made me pasta sauce, sans meat and pasta. Man it was delicious - I can’t wait to eat the real thing with meat and pasta in a few weeks.

Alright. Catch you soon.

Well, I bit the bullet recently and realised a few things.

Number 1: I need a real desk, instead of one of these stupid upright tower thingies that I’ve been using for my computer. As well as this, I’ve got the laptop that I have been sitting on the corner of an open drawer next to me to use, which just isn’t happenin’.

Number 2: To accomodate this desicion, I’ll have to significantly re-arrange my room.

Number 3: My cupboards lounge and kitchen require clearance with very little discrimination. It’s crazy Woo’s and EVERYTHING MUST GO!!! If anyone needs any mirrors, I’ve got plenty. In fact, my kitchen resembles a wall of mirrors, moreso than a Kitchen. I have a 1m x 1m solid timber framed mirror (probably designed to sit atop a dresser), one of those oval full-body mirrors on a stand and you can change the angle, and a retro mirror also about 1m x 1m, but on legs similar to that of an easle.

If you want any of these mirrors, make an offer.

So last night, I pulled out the couch that had inadvertently been dominating one wall, and in doing so, stirred up quite a dust storm it appears. I’ve been sneezing pretty regularly ever since. As soon as I did, my room psychologically doubled in size. It’s great. I can’t wait to shrink it down again with a whoppin’ big desk! That’ll be great. I’ve decided I’m going to go dual monitors too, so I’ll have to start saving up for that I think.

I’m going to have my hands full re-organising my stereo system with the new desk layout, but I think it’ll be easy enough. I may change my setup entirely, but I do like how it is now… Oh well.

In other news, I start my first prac on the 8th of May. I’m going to be in a year 3/4 composite at Nashville Primary. That should be a blast, and I’m really excited. I’m meeting my supervising teacher on Friday after school.

Poker night!

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

Who can believe it’s Wednesday already? Not sure who can make it to poker tonight, but it’ll be the same deal as usual … my place 7pm. BYO drinks, and if some people could bring a bag of chips, that’d be awesome. $10 buy-in, winner takes all format, with deal-making possible.

I have had really sore muscles over the past few days, so haven’t been up to doing much. In fact, it’s all I can do to stay awake right now as I blog away. The muscle pain I’ve been combatting with painkillers, and they seem to have got me through the night last night, so hoorah for that.

I’ve got a Dr’s appointment this morning, so hopefully there’ll be time for a nap before poker. Bek has also threatened to visit prior to poker, but I believe she won’t be staying for the main event.

I’m out of hospital!

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

Hey everyone, just a real quick note to say that I’m back from hospital and feeling pretty good, if a little sore. And starving. hehe, not really starving, but really back.

At Uni, feelin’ like a dork

Monday, April 10th, 2006

Hi everyone,

Mum and I visited Dean in the hospital this arvo - about 2:30 - and were pleased to see him doing quite well. He had a few patches over incisions on his belly, but otherwise he was in good shape. They’ve got him in a busy-ass “23 hour” recovery ward or something - not sure of the terminology. He comes home tomorrow in the AM though, so, mum left him a book to read at least to keep him occupied for a little while.

So now I’m sitting here at uni, feeling a little bit silly as I came here an hour early on the premise of meeting a partner for an assignment. To my dismay, I appear to have come on the wrong week, and thus am here with nothing to do :( Oh woe is me. So I’m writing here on the lappy.

I’ve gotta get going for a lecture now, but just letting you know Dean’s doing well, is philosophical (almost relieved to have it doe) and is looking forward to being home.
