Ian Thorpe - Aids? Discuss

Hello peeps - and a very special welcome to those reading my blog for the first time, dragged in by the catchy title fo this post.

I had a great weekend, all things considered: Friday night I hit up Glara’s for dinner, which was cool, and then we watched football/CNNNN/Ali G until it was time to go home. Saturday I fixed my cousin Angela’s computer, and then visited M&D’s and went to Bunnings with Woo to get some pipe. Saturday night Glenn came over and played some poker with his account. It was fun, but highlighted the fact that we need another computer set-up here to allow for three players to play at once.

Sunday, no SLC because Glara had a breakfast engagement, and Brek were out of town on a lovely romantic getaway with Brett’s parents. :teehee: Still, Glara were invited to come over for a bit on their way home, which they did, although I did sleep too long to be up bright and early when they got there. Oops. Performing PC’s engagement was that afternoon, and I had some chores to run on the way home. I had long promised myself Noodle Box for late lunch Sunday, and I got that. Also, I picked up some motchi from Sushi Train and some Starbuck’s gift cards for Lisa in America.

Did anyone watch the football on Sunday? That was disappointing. The cricket also sounded super exciting, and can you believe the result? OMG. My tip to Glenn paid off, I hope you got money in on that, Glenn. Formula 1 was also on last night, so I stayed up with Blacky to watch. Good race, plenty of close overtaking, moderately predicatble result, although Raikonnen and Rosberg did well especially.

Got a lot to do, no time to dilly dallly. 24 tonight for those that can make it.

Let’s all hear it for Blacky! *more poker, sorry*

More Poker - Apologies to the Non-obsessed

So I’d been reading this poker book ‘Big Deal’, which I bought Chuckler for his birthday - primarily so he’d have something interesting to read on the plane but then I made it all too obvious I wanted to read it, forcing him to finish it quickly and graciously lend it to me before he left - which is a good blend of poker stories, history and advice. Having finished the book in about two days, I was clearly in need of some poker.

Given the problems we have had getting a game organised and my lack of access to non-work high speed net, the next best thing was a tournament on the PSP. Although I’ve put in a lot of hours on PSP poker in the couple of weeks I’ve had it, I’d never come close to winning a tournament until last night. I had however, finished just in the money in a few hold’em tournaments, which had given me enough cash to play all the available hold’em tournaments for the year. This meant I was left with playing things like a Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo tournament, which I would usually avoid like the plague.

I’m not sure whether I’d sub-consciously picked up tips from the book, or whether I was just lucky, but I found myself with a pretty decent stack of chips for most of the game, which saw me into the money (top 20 out of 153) and then to the final table. By this time, it was past Rove O’Clock and Lara had fallen asleep. I kept playing until the short stacks were knocked out and there were just four of us left, with me having the least chips of the four. I went and had a shower and tried to sleep - impossible with the PSP sitting just on the bedside table. So I played on, surviving while the 4th and 3rd players were knocking out, leaving me way behind (about 5:1 behind) the other guy when we went heads-up. I thought I’d be out quickly, but managed to claw may way up to about even and then moved ahead - this can take a long time when playing Pot Limit Hi-Lo - and finished victorious just before 1AM.

Then Charlotte woke up at about 2:30 and we fought to get her back to sleep, which took until about 4AM, somewhat deflating the victory, especially as none of the $300K or so I won is real money.

Even so, the question remains, has reading the book improved my poker-playing (noting also that Chuckler had read/was reading it just before his recent wins) or was it purely coincidence?

yup yup yup

Hola mein peeps. Wow, a sentence with Spanish, German and Urbanese in one 3-word phrase. :teehee:

Ok, the weekend was pretty sweet. Friday the 24 gang got together and enjoyed two episodes. There needs to be another 24 before I go away, guys … Friday again? I can barely wait to see how the hobbit does this week. It was tough, with all you guys eating delicious smelling food Friday night, and then I ate a meal anyway on Saturday and Sunday, so I’ve resolved that 2 meals over the weekend is acceptable. So we can all have dinner together on Friday, if people are available.

Glenn and Lara lazed around at our place Sunday, which was fun. None of us had anything better to do, so we might as well do nothing together. We had Noodle Box for early tea/late lunch and the festivities came to a screeching holt when I made charlotte fall off a chair on her head. /sigh

SLC this week was at Cathedral Place sushi, and was good. The Salmon Rice Bowl I ordered took too long to come out, but when it did it was delicious, and a good alternative for sushi proper for those wanting to cap their exposure. People came back Sunday afternoon for more sitting around lazing, and that pretty much wraps up the weekend.

Mum out of hospital yesterday, family night tonight.

Holy carp I rule!

Geeze I’m lazy.

So, the first week of uni is over for 2006 (for me at least). I have my passport, which is all sweet - it’s a new E-passport. That’s right - it’s got government issued Ecstasy in it. No wonder there have been so many busts lately. No but seriously, it’s got a microchip in it, which is kinda weird. But it’s spanky and new, and I’m all set for the next 10 years.

Uni has started in full swing. I’ve only got 3 days, broken up into 1 hour on Monday, 10 hours on Tuesday, and 2 hours on Thursday. It’d be nice if I could combine Monday and Thursday into one of those two days, but we’ll see. I bought two books the other day which cost me $155, so I’m currently broke as a joke.

It appears that I’ll have two assignments to do while I’m in America. I’ll have to talk to my tutors and lecturers about getting it mostly out of the way before I go, if posible, but the fact is I’m supposed to “present” them the day after I come home.

I’ve been organising the Cebs activities for tonight during this week. We’re having a “Vast Vehicular Verification” (VVV) night, which is a team vehicle checkpoint challenge. Time’s not the important thing - it’s about setting up the shortest route they can, while completing a series of checkpoints at which they’ll have to take note of certain things etc. It should be fun. And because I’m organising, I just observe.

How nice is this rain? We’ve got no down pipes at the moment because of the rendering that’s going on, so the rain pours straight off the roof into the yard. Yesterday there was a watermark level on the wall 4cm high, which is a dam lot of water. We need to get a tank. It’s phenomenal how much water goes down down-pipes. I just took it for granted before now.

Mum’s been re-admitted to hospital for observation, so I’ve been visiting her as often as I can. I’m not sure I should today because I’m coming down with some stupid. Yesterday I made her laugh aloud, and it hurt her a little, so I felt bad :( Curse my hilarity! I certainly don’t want to make her cough at all if I can avoid it, which probably means not visiting.

Got a meeting on tomorrow for Cebs. Oh, I’ve been elected as secretary of Chermside branch in my absence at the parents meeting. Yay. So I’ve devised a grand scheme. I’ll take along the laptop, and take notes on that, but I’ll also take along a microphone to record the conversation for future reference, as well as to take notes more easily.

So I’ll keep you posted on how tonight’s VVV goes. We’re going to finish at Cold Rock, so that’ll be fun.

Ridiculous. Can there be anybody in the entire world right now as hungry as I am? I doubt it, and I’ve seen the World Vision ads on television. No food sucks, especially at night when it keeps you awake. Man I want a burger.

So I thought I’d blog a little, before trying something else to get my mind off it. I’ve also got the startings of a sickness, so that’s not added to my upbeatedness. I slept at M&D’s last night and got something from the airconditioning, I think, even though it was only 24 degrees, which is wierd. Mum was readmitted to hospital this morning, so I hope she’s ok.

Of course, I’m an idiot for suggesting 24 for a Wednesday night - is Friday better for the usual invitees?
