Is poker likely?

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

hey goons. Poker tomorrow at my place, 7:30pm. BYO drinks, and rsvp asap so we can actually get it happening this week.

I’ve got Lara here today so can’t dilly-dally too much on blog entries galore. Instead, please feel free to google anything you like and press the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. Hopefully that will kill some time for y’all.

Hairbrained scheme!!

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

In an effort to get myself to exercise more, I signed myself up for a junkmail delivery route. I pick up my first bundle of junk on Monday, to be folded and then delivered by Wednesday night, or Thursday morning is acceptable. So I wondered how I was going to carry around 330 houses worth of junkmail, so I decided to use a pushbike. I’ve got the use of Dean’s bike, and so I went out and purchased a cargo rack to go on the back. On the way home from the bike shop, I “borrowed” 3 milk crates from the local grocer’s concern, which I would mount on the cargo rack and like saddle bags.

So I set about it, and after a few trips to bunnings to get some hardware, I affixed them to the bike. They’re a striking (and colour co-ordinated) red crate, and compliment the lines of the bike remarkably, if I do say so myself.

What’ve I been up to other than that? There was of course the unforgettable TJH1BBQITPP on Australia day. Much cricket was played, a model plane was crashed, several times, catastrophically, and an inflatable pool for the brave. BBQs are always great. I came home with Carmen who collected me from Dean’s on the way through. Dad had organised her a computer, for her to take to Tasmania with her. The timing was very convenient, even though I kept her waiting for a few minutes at Dean’s.

Friday I went and saw Memoirs of a Geisha at the movies with Abi, and it’s a good story. The film is enjoyable, though some of the Japanese terminology can make some of the scenes hard to understand. We went and had subway, which is always great before I returned home via Liam’s. Was good to catch up with Liam, as the last time I dropped in, despite that fact that he was home, he didn’t hear the door or he was asleep or something.

Prior to that, I hadn’t been up to very much at all. I dunno how I fill my days. Seriously. I dunno what the hell I do. I’m loving the holiday but :D I think I find myself trying to finish this ninja game, which continues to thwart me. Grr.

Last night I booked myself tickets to go and visit Jakeo at Rocky. He returns from Japan on the 5th, hangs around in Brisbane for a few days, then flys up to Rocky on the 8th. I’ve got Sam and Rowena’s 21st coming up, so I couldn’t go back to Rocky at the same time, so I’ve organised to go up the day after the party, and stay for 5 days or so. Should be good to see how he lives up there.

Tonight we went to B&K’s for dinner, which is always lovely. Ben read me a book, and entertained us all with drawings on his etcha-sketch thingy. I have succumed and borrowed the first 2 Harry Potters from Berny, after having seen only the 4th one with no introductions the other week. We shall see if I can tolerate them.

Oh, btw, here’s some pics of the bike: (click the thumbnails for larger pics)

The other good thing is, I no longer need a stand…

And if I get a bit over-zelous with my wheelies…

Quick Friday Schpiel

I think it’s fair to say that the ‘Straya Day BBQ in the park was an awesome success. There’s a new webcam picture, to boot! My personal highlight was pretty much the moment as shown in the cam photo. If only we could’ve got some ladies in there too. /sigh

Tonight is 24 dudes, although Leyton may or may not be available, but he should be here pretty much all afternoon, so if we start early, we’re a good chance. No plans yet for dinner.

This Sunday, I’d like to have brunch at the Jazzy Cat again - that’s how good it was last week. So we’ll make it an official SLC function, shall we say 11:30am?

Straya Day Party Invite

Well, this looks to be a goer, and organized in it’s usual hap-hazard fashion. Hope to see you there!

How Good is Jack Bauer?

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Jack Bauer got Hellen Keller to talk.

Superman wears Jack Bauer pajamas.

If you wake up in the morning, it’s because Jack Bauer spared your life.

Lets get one thing straight, the only reason you are conscious right now is because Jack Bauer does not feel like carrying you.

In kindergarten, Jack Bauer killed a terrorist for Show and Tell.

When asked what he wanted the title of his TV show to be, Jack Bauer replied simply, “Name it after the length of my penis.”

If you look up terrorist in the dictionary you will not see Jack Bauer, but Jack Bauer will see you.

24 Premiere

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Just wanted to throw this out there: with Lates and Blacky hitting BDO this weekend, is anyone interested in brunch at the casino?

In other news, last night was the premiere of 24 Season 5 at my place. Such excitement, such grandeur. It was a real red carpet affair, with stars and gowns as far as the eyes could see. Well, not exactly. It was Brek, Lates, Blacky and I, which is the optimal number for 24 … everyone gets a seat. I made risotto, which didn’t turn out too badly, and the ever-socially-resposible Brett brought desert and booze. Leyton was late, and by the time he arrived Bek was enthralled with stupid Smallville, so we had to watch that to the end before 24 could start. Goddam.

My media center pc is awesome. S-Video is far, far, better than composite I have discovered. I’ll need a new DVD/R-W to go into it soon, and longer-term, a new big fat HDD. I have some more RAM kicking around which I’m sure will also make a difference.

I don’t have much more to say for the moment, so I bid you all adieu.

Emptily unfulfilled

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

I do believe you deserve better than merely that (albeit hilarious - seriously) joke in a week’s timeframe, so I shall tell you a bit about what’s been going on, rather than doing as the title of the post suggests.

Some of the Cebs chums and I went up to Bribie on Sunday for a bit of sun and surf. Bribie’s not known for its amazing surf, and it lived up to its reputation, until the tide started going out a bit, and the waves picked up a little, but were still not great. But anyway, we had fun. I got a bit sunburned, but not too badly - it was all better the next day.

It was pretty dam hot day on Sunday, and my phone was all like “Callun man… it’s so hot down here in your pocket man… can’t you do something? Dude?”, so I was all like… obliging, and took the little fella for a swim. I showed him how to body surf, before dismembering him and letting him dry out. It brings a tear to my eye to know that he died happy - surfing.

So, I needed to get a new phone. I saw in a shop a Nokia 6030 and decided that was what I wanted, but the shop was actually out of stock. I dilligently ordered it online, using Dean’s money (thanks Dean!) , and received it today. It’s a pretty shmick phone, and I think it’ll suit me perfectly. IT’s taking forever to charge but. Dam… it’s been charging for ages. Hopefully it’s just the “first charge jitters” or something.

So what else has happened during the week? Mum and dad are in Canberra, and have been since Saturday, so I’ve been living a subsistence lifestyle (moreso than normal), with Dean popping over every so often. I’ve been doing some graphics work for his trip to Brainshare, and that’s been fun. I also soldered up a new switch for a lamp of mine that crapped itself. That was fun, though a little messy, as I soldered, and unsoldered a few times, double checking my work, realising it was wrong, then fixing it. It all works good now.

I picked up Berny and Karen from the airport on Monday, after their holiday to Cairns, and in return, Berny trimmed my hair back to uber-flat-flat-top, and I stayed there for dinner, which was delightful as usual.

I’m going ice skating tomorrow, which should be fun. I haven’t ice-skated in a while, so, let’s all have a guess at home many times we all think I’ll fall over. I’m reluctanly guessing once, cos I’d be surprised if I didn’t fall over once, especially with how much clowning around I’m sure to do.

Okay, so that about wraps it up for me. Got a cebs meeting tomorrow night to plan the coming semester, so until then.

Hilarity ensues

This is potentially the best blonde joke ever.

Blonde Joke

Poke him? Naaaah … poker!

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Tonight we resume regular poker fixtures for our Wednesday night No Limit. $10 buy-in, no rebuys. I also propose a bad-beat jackpot, say $1 per week, that gets paid to whoever loses at showdown with a full house or better.

My place, or M&D’s place could be good venues - M&D’s place if we require a larger table. At a guess, I’d say that we’d have me, Woo, Glenn, Berny, Blacky and Lates … any more than that and we’ll go to M&D’s.

So, rsvp, come along, bring $11 and maybe get rich beyond your wildest dreams. Well, if your wildest dreams contain around $50 cash.

Nark nark nark

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

While it’s technically a “Lara Day” at work today, so far she hasn’t showed. I got an SMS that “apparently” she’ll be here at 9:30am, but … we’ll see …. we’ll see.

Sounded narky, didn’t it?

So I was up pretty late last night, getting stuff sorted for Tall Tower enquiries that I’d blown off all weekend. Leyton was over, and we watched the latest Lost and an episode of My Name is Earl, via the wonder of the HTPC. It’s coming together - last night it only had regular old XP installed, so the remote control and stuff didn’t work, but some time soon Windows Media Center Edition will adorn my new beast. Then it needs a quieter CPU fan, quieter and bigger HDD, and a quieter DVD-Rom. /sigh. Always something to do.

M&D called the other day … apparently they’ve been charged with selling Bryce’s car, since he’s likely to be in South Africa for significantly longer than expected.

What else? Big Day Out is on this weekend, so if someone’s going to organize an apartment down the coast and then a SLC brunch at the casino, they’d better do so chop-chop. Also, we’ve all just kinda assumed that the Australia Day BBQ in the Park will just happen, but usually someone (Leyton) has sent invitations and stuff long before now, hasn’t he? It is Leyton I suppose. Some tardiness is expected, but no longer tolerated. ;)
I’ve started making a list of things that can go into storage. My idea of putting a single bed in my walk-in robe didn’t pan out, as the measurements just don’t support it. It also got me thinking that there are probably somethings in life that aren’t worth compromising on. I mean, you sleep 8 hours a day (God willing) so you might as well enjoy it. Stupid office space. Now I don’t know WHAT I’m gong to do.
