Long time overdue

Monday, May 30th, 2005

Alright, alright. I can take a hint. You know, it’s not easy being unemployed. Today I took care of some stuff at my old work, then took myself and work’s printer home, via Price Point’s supplier. I then spent the afternoon doing accounting in a pretty major way, and now I’m on the phone with Centrelink to see if I qualify for the dole.

What’s news? Well, I have to think back as to when I last wrote. Or I could re-read my last blog entry, from last week. Ah yes. Nothing new.

Ok, let’s do this.

Friday night I moved on out to M&D’s for a Foo dinner with them and their friends W&M. Lovely. I stayed the night, and dragged Mum to the markets Saturday morning. Haha, well … we made it to breakfast AFTER the markets, if not neccessarily the markets themselves. :teehee: Mum then came back to my place and worked like a dog cleaning around the house with me. What a legend. Thanks Mum! The place looks great.

Saturday evening, aching and tired, I watched TV and did nothing. sweeeeet. Sunday, Glara came over and we organized Lunch together with the group at Fasta Pasta. Quite nice, and pleasingly cheap.

Dinner with Rob and Nadia at my place this Thursday, can hardly wait for that one. On the menu … curry. That was a suprise, wasn’t it? Friday night is 24 finale, hopefully on the big screen. Be there or be square.

Desolate Wasteland

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

That’s what this blog seems to be! Here come the tumbleweeds

Those are tumbleweeds by the way, not emoticons :teehee:

This week, I went through my second partner for an assignment I’ve got to do. None of them are up to the challenge of what I’m presenting, so they PIKE and go ahead and do their own thing or find someone with EASIER ideas. They must be jaded now, because they’re 3rd year, and I’m still fresh and wild first year preppy type.

I’ve had a pretty cruisey week really. On Wednesday I made some archery targets for Cebs. Last night we had a “Robin Hood” night. We played “King Ball”, and “Nation Ball” and then shot arrows for pretty much the rest of the night. We set up a heap of foam mattresses against cubicle-dividers, and taped the target to the mattress. Worked well. It was quite interesting afterwards, because the arrows didn’t just separate the foam and pierce it, but they took out little foam worms in front of them. Really weird to see, but I guess you had to be there, or you can try it for yourself.

And Dean came and stayed over last night. I have his door piece of his car all fixed, yet, he neglects to affix it. I think he secretly likes his car being a hoopty, and will probably break other things when the door EVENTUALLY goes back on to keep it that way.

I am doing my assignment today. How weird is that? It’s quite out of character I must say. We’re riding to Redcliffe tomorrow, so that will be quite a trip.

No pizza hangover

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

If you can believe it, I somehow avoided the pizza hangover problem this morning. Yesterday was a pizza-centric day, seeing as I made it myself for lunch with Leyton, and then got invited to Glara’s for pizza and pasta night for dinner.

‘Twas a good weekend, really. Leyton and Bek came around for a spontaneous 24 session, which was good, but is starting to get annoying. Leyton had to skidaddle pretty promptly, as his studies beckoned, but it was still a fun night. Bek and I agreed to go to Panyiri on Saturday to check it out. I worked on financials for Price Point, and then went to bed.

Slept till about midday, and then slowly came into consciousness. We hit Panyiri at about 3pm, which was coincidentally when it opened. I think we misread the situation somewhat. If we had a group that was prepared to sit in the sun all afternoon, drinking Greek beer and eating Greek food, then it would’ve been perfect. Instead, we had a small group that were all driving, and it was too hot. We didn’t last long, although foolishly promised ourselves that we’d go back later.

We didn’t, of course. Instead we had dinner at the Thai Phoenix, which was great. Pre-dinner, we’d entertained the possibility of rocking back into the Greek Festival to get some baklava for desert. Post-dinner, we were too full to move comfortably. So we went back to my place. Brett and I watched the Lions, while Bek napped on the couch.

Sunday, visited M&D and went grocery shopping with M. Went home with a determination to make my first risotto, and it wasn’t bad, if I do say so myself.

One Night Stand

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005

So, in the last 2 days, a whole lot seems to have happened! Isabel came over for a few hours while she and Dennis were down in Brisbane, the Corolla has been nearly restored to its stock standard condition, and the painting on the roof has nearly been finished!

Berny and I went to an auction today. It was a public trustee’s auction of mostly recovered stolen goods and deceased estates. There were only really a couple of things that had any interest to me, namely a desktop lighter but slightly different to the one pictured. Berny got a few things, but I didn’t get anything.

Today I went for a ride. I kinda pedalled aimlessly for 15 minutes and came across a bike shop at Chermside. My chain had been jumping and being funny, and I need new wheels, so I went in and made some enquiries, and he helped me out and got the bike running fairly well again! I need new wheels ($110 for a pair) and new pedals, and I’ll be all ship-shape again. I stopped in at Jess’s, and noone was home there, so I set another destination - Jake’s old house at Clayfield.

Much as I’d expected, nobody was home there, so I went on to Toombul shopping centre, and continued on my merry way home. About 20k’s or so.

Tonight I’m going to a fundraising concert for a girl that’s going to russia for some research. It sounds as though it could be good, here’s hoping.

Jurist

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005

Haha, I got a letter in the mail notifying me that I will be a potential juror.

I haven’t blogged in a while, because of course, I’ve been mad busy. The TT business name is now registered, but without a bank account. That’s a job for next Monday I guess.

Scotch tasting on Thursday, despite me already making dinner plans with Rob and Nadia. D’oh. I’ll have to cancel.

I gave up my Starwars 3 Ticket to Berny for midnight tonight, mainly because I don’t care enough to stay awake past midnight, and he, apparently, does.

So fragmented. Seem to have lost the ability to type in normal length paragraphs.

Saturday people came over for fun fun fun. We broke out the new board game Ticket to Ride and had our first game. Nice game, pretty simple. Also watched some Lions, some Broncos and some poker. San Juan got a few goes. Big night for all.

Which reminds me, I’ve got 24 eps ready to go, but Leyton’s got exams soon, so we’ll have to wait until they’re done.

Sunday, only Davo and Julie turned up for the cancelled Musos Convention. Still, it was nice to see them for a chat, if only under false pretenses. Dave has recently acquired Prices of Florence, so we’ll have to get him over sometime to suffer at the mercy of my works.

Good Family Night last night, eventually. I arrived to a dark house (Woo was outside working on his car) and it was empty. Simba and Chaz were practically spastic with excitement that someone had finally come home. I gave them chicken and worked for a while until M&D got home. They read over my business plan for TT and were optimistic. Who isn’t? It’s a great plan.

Rollin’

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

So yesterday I *FINALLY* finished the drainage trench in the backyard, with only a few weeks break for smoko. We also had the guys who will be painting our roof working their magic. They “de-fungus” or something, then they’ll probably paint on Monday they said.

And today, I woke up and felt like going for a ride. I asked mum where I should ride to, and she said “Why not try Berny and Karen’s?”, which I had been considering, but questioned my ability to either get there, or get BACK! But anyway, I scarfed some breakfast, and filled up my camelbak, and off I went.

I don’t know how long it took, but when I called mum to let her know I was there safely, she thought it didn’t take very long. I hung around there for a little while, and saw Berny’s mods to his car, and then thought I’d better go home, because I didn’t know how long it would take :noes:

When you ride, you have to go home via a different route than you went to the place by, otherwise, it’s boring. So, I came home via Albany Creek road, and down Maundrell Terrace. According to Whereis, the Albany Creek road way is 13.08km. Pretty decent effort for a fat bugger, if I do say so myself :teehee:

I took more notice of how long it took to get home, which was about 45minutes. Karen was surprised that I was home already when I called to organise for Berny to pick up our water-pressure-sprayer-thingy.

Anyone keen for a ride somewhere?

Musos Convention: Cancelled

Friday, May 13th, 2005

Hi, sorry, but I have to cancel the Frustrated Muso’s convention this weekend. There’s just not enough attendees to make it worthwhile, so I’m pulling the plug.

Someone - Woo I think - noted that it’s been a while since I blogged, and they are right. It has been. But a lot can happen in a short space of time.

First up, I’m leaving Perf PC’s, but I’m retaining them as a client. My new company, Tall Tower Software, will be taking them on as a client and providing their sales and marketing programs. This should work out quite well for me. Except financially. :teehee:

Seriously though, this whole thing has taken a crudload of time. My friend in the US, who does my web design, is looking at coming on as a minor partner, so that I can accept US credit cards, and US bank transfers. The difference between this business and Perf is the staleness of the customer service experience. I intend to revolutionize that. I think I’ll make a moderate living, which hopefully the other avenues will support.

Glenn’s looking for fun tonight, and that means good honest geekery. Who’s down?

Resistance is Futile

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005

So I rode my bike down to Stafford City the other day. I’ve been thinking up a way to build a little clip/holder thing to put my LED torch onto the bike, incase the light that’s on there dies - It tends to happen a bit because it’s not used very often. So I went down to Mitre 10 to get some hardware, and while paying, I saw this little LED headset, kinda like a handsfree phone boom and earpiece thing, and we’ve been struggling to play cards at night with no light, so I bought it, and it was $8.95.

When I got it home, I cracked open the packaging, and stuck it on, and when I looked in the mirror, my inner geek took over, and I started being all “mission impossible” styles, walking around the house with no lights on, using my new earpiece light, but not just mission impossible. I had this image of “Locutus” from star trek that I couldn’t shake.

So, as I giggled, I got my camelbak, and a cd, and a handful of cutlery, and played dressups. :teehee:

Resistance is futile.

Furious Rant against Channel 10

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005

Hey youse.

Classy start eh? I’m sorry for no update on Friday, but I was home from work, sick. Poor, poor me. :wtc: Went out partyin at Glara’s place Friday night, which was a hoot, with Glara, Lates and Blacky. I gave Lates his overdue birthday present - San Juan, the card game version of Puerto Rico. I also picked up a copy of a new game, Ticket to Ride … NOT a chicken to ride as the song suggests.

Saturday I slept in as best I could, sans some idiot ringing at 7am with a wrong number. Rob W and I were having breakfast later that morning, but I went back to sleep anyway. Luckily, he was running late, so a 11-am-ish breakfast meant I was almost to the point of being sociable. Leyton came around that afternoon and we all just sort of killed time all afternoon. San Juan got a go or two. Blacky went out somewhere. Rob W went home. Leyton went home. I went to bed.

Sunday, Mother’s Day and I headed over to M&D’s for the traditional Mother’s Day breakfast. It’s kinda mutated in our household … on Mother’s Day, Mum cooks breakfast and we all visit with good presents, as opposed to when we were younger and we cooked and didn’t have good presents. We all chipped in together and bought sheets for her latest bedroom renovation project, and a vase, quite nice and also for the bedroom renovation project, or elsewhere as she sees fit. Lovely morning, and then I went home to stooge around doing nothing in particular.

Yesterday Leyton and I had a business meeting with our supplier, which I thought was a joke, and he thought was a serious matter. It had the potential to get serious, but at that stage it was a joke. It was finalized that the supplier would tell us what we’d have to do to continue, and this morning they said they were going to raise our prices. We furiously double-teamed him with all the reasons why we wouldn’t, and we’ll see where that gets us.

Let me just say this now: I think the new series of Big Brother could be good. I think Channel 10 sucks balls for not putting Criminal Intent on, however. Also, next week, Episode 2 of Star Wars is on at 8:30pm … great, but where’s Criminal Intent you b a s t a r d s? Honestly, NCIS is entertaining to watch, partly because of the terrible characters and terrible acting, and you can get your crime drama fix from it, but Criminal Intent is a whole other ballgame. C’mon Channel 10 … get your act together!

I could’ve danced all night

Monday, May 9th, 2005

Howdy all,

So it’s been a week since I last updated. Naughty Woo. I really haven’t done a lot since then. I went to one 3 hour uni class where we made music, which was kinda cool, but today was back into the thick of it. With 80% of my classes on Monday, the public holidays meant I only had 20% of classes running. So, it was full swing today. Starting at 10 is pretty tough when I’ve had no commitments

I did manage to struggle through an assignment. It took a while, what with starting, and restarting, and then starting from scratch yet again yesterday, with the assignment due today.

Yesterday was of course Mother’s day. Dean arrived around 1O o’clockish, and we enjoyed a rather sumptuous breakfast, with a little present giving, then it was back to the grind on my assignment. Mumsy extremely graciously helped me with my assignment, so, much love to mum for that, and of course dad helped out too with proof reading etc.

It’s good to have them, cos my topic was, “Rural education continues to do it tough”, and mum ‘n’ dad did 17 years in North Queensland in rural education. A veritable wealth of experience.

Today we also changed “art forms” from Drama to Dance. We’ve got a really good teacher, which I’m utterly relieved about, who really puts dance in a context that isn’t girly-fairy garbage. Very good exercise. We made a little dance using percussive movements to the rhythm of our name, then combined with a partner and put the two together. Anyway, it was really good fun, and I look forward to using it in real life.

Now I’ve just gotta pass the time before I go back to uni. I’m told there is no netball on tonight, so, that’ll be nice :)
