All I know is that i’ll meet you there

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Hey all,

Well, this weekend was absolutely awesome :) I had been working nightshift all of last week, which was quite nice - It almost fits in with my normal sleeping hours. So Saturday, I don’t remember if Jake came over here, or if I went there… I think both happened. He was here for a while, then we were at his place, and then here again. He got a message from his friend saying how bored she was, so we went and got her, and we all went into the valley to see some bands play.

We caught the train to Brunswick Street and walked up the mall to the Troubador, who were billing Tonjip and Thirsty Merc. Tonjip is one of Steve’s bands, so he reccomended them and they were good, and thirsty merc were great. It was just Rai and Sean, but they still went off.

And I started talking to this girl, Wendy, who was sitting nearby, and I got her number. The gig finished, and Jake, Amy and myself wandered the valley trying to find somewhere good to stop. We didn’t really find anywhere of interest, so we just walked home, from the Valley to Clayfield… only happens when you’re drunk I think.

So Sunday, is really a blur. Not much happened. Jake and I went driving around, intending to visit people. We bought some DVD’s from a sale on at Blockbuster, and we watched them. Saw “The Punisher”, which I really enjoyed, because we had it as a game on the computer back when 486’s were the shiz.

We went around to Rowena’s place, but she wasn’t home. They had a chilli bush outside their front door, and I dared Jake to squeeze some into a burn he had, which he did - I should really pay up on that dare. Then we went to Katie’s, and she too was not home, so we went back to my house.

Had dinner at Jake’s, and then I had to go home, because I had to work this morning.

Today, work was CRAZY. The other guy (Vladimir) who’s usually in my area wasn’t there, so I pretty much took all his duties. I had NO idea what I was doing at first, and I’m still pretty shakey on it, so, tomorrow, if I’m doing it again, should be easier. I also had to help out the new guy who was there out cos Vlad was gone.

An enjoyable day really, because with all the extra tasks, I wasn’t bored when things slowed down - I got to enjoy the break a little.

Adios

Cocktail Party Madness

Monday, November 29th, 2004

Well, my little Deankateers, the weekend was great. I suppose it all started on Friday night, when I stayed at home doing nothing. Then, early Saturday morning, Rob and Nadia called to say that they were on their way to the markets, if I wanted a lift. I did. Rob dropped Nadia at work (poor Nad :frown:) and then stopped at Chez Chuckler to pick me up. It was a good markets - I got muffins, tomatos and chicken jerky dog biscuits. Breakfast afterwards with the group, at Harvey’s of course, and I had their fabulous grilled corncake. Sooo good. Served with avocado, tomato and coriander. :yum:

Anyway, I had nothing really important to do that mid-afternoon, so Rob hijacked me to install a new router at his Stafford office. I went along, poked my nose where it wasn’t needed, offered advice that wasn’t needed and generally made a nuisance of myself, and then we visited M&D, where in this case, D stands for Dogs, Dad not being home. They’re renovating their bathroom, so I’ll get some good mileage out of my website design work over the next few weeks.

So, Rob dropped me back at my place, and I bought the cocktail party booze from the bottleshop next door. Here’s something funny: they had West Coast Coolers on special, so I bought a six pack. They’re just as sweet and non-potent as you’d imagine. Still, at least they were on sale.

There was television coverage of the Junior Nine-Ball pool championship that afternoon, and it was riveting. In Nine-Ball, there’s only the first nine balls on the table, and as soon as the 9-ball is sunk, the game is over. The catch is that you have to play at the other balls in order. For example, if the 1-ball is on the table, you need to hit that ball first. If you hit the 1-ball, and it ricochets into the 9-ball and sink that, you win. Very interesting game, especially when it can be over with one good break.

Glara’s cocktail party was a hoot. I don’t want to go into too much detail: what happens at the cocktail party, stays at the cocktail party. :naughty: Glenn started to feel a little off-colour towards the end of the night, I hope he pulled up ok. Lara did a fabulous job of putting the party to bed though. The Sing Star got a complete workout, and there were some unbelievable scores. Hooooo mamma.

Blacky woke me at 1pm the next day in desperate need of panadol. It’s probably best he woke me - I would’ve slept for ever and screwed my chances of ever getting to work on time today. And then you wouldn’t have this blog entry, so everyone tell blacky how grateful you are next time you see him, ok?

It was a day spent entirely in my pajamas, and I made massaman curry for dinner. It turned out ok, and I tried as best I could to leave enough leftovers for 2 in the fridge for lunch today. Woohoo!

The “What’s News” Post

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

Not long now till Glara’s cocktail party. 2 days in fact. It’ll be great. Mayor McCheese and the First Lady are quite reknowned for their ability to throw a good cocktail party, and I’m sure this one’ll be no different. Blacky has already confirmed that he will be on his A-Game, so at least we won’t have to worry about that.

In other news, my car is fixed. Or so they said when they rang this morning. I’m very excited about that, to be sure, as it means that tonight I’ll be meeting with Rob W for a commercial visit, and then visiting his lovely home where he will even make dinner. I assume his wife will be there somewhere, too. :thefinger:

So, what else is news? I’m currently in producer-mode at work, which is pretty fun: I’m producing a new demo video (which is more painful to make than pulling teeth) and a new advertising cartoon, which is more fun because I haven’t done it a zillion times before. Also, I’m planning our server upgrade, which is long overdue, and working on several new websites. Godfrey has asked me to put a proposal down on one of his sites, and I just haven’t had time yet to do that. Sorry, Godez, if you’re reading.

I set myself the goal of sleeping through the night last night, the last few days have been split up by late-night phone calls to idiots who won’t buy our products, but still expect the courtesy of a telephone call. WHATEVER! I’m in danger of having to spend another day in training on the 7th December, which revolts me a little. Christmas holidays will be a welcome break.

Get wet, Go Wild!

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

G’day,

Well this last weekend was a pretty extreme one. Saturday was a blur really… I was bored as crap, so I went over to Jake’s place. We went and picked up Jess at work, and then went back to Jake’s place. We were gonna drop Jess at a party at Runcorn, and then just hang out for a while. We ended up staying up all night, before collecting Jess at 5am on Sunday morning, and going to the Rocklea markets.

I was a little dissapointed with them to tell you the truth. It was in a big parking lot, and much of the stuff was junky (in my opinion), and overpriced. We left there and I went onto Chuch, because the Cebs breakup was on. They presented the all-rounders and other prizes, and then we went to Wet ‘n’ Wild.

It was a good turnout at wet ‘n’ wild, considering the day was so cloudy and rainy. Lots of people there. Probably the best ride there was the Mammoth River - half a dozen people in a tube going down a massive waterslide thing. Good fun, especially with big people - you get some serious speed happening.

I won a race on the 8 lane Aqua Racer thing - Daniel ate my wake the whole way down :thefinger: and we nearly got to the end of the flume thingy. Two of you in a tube go down a steep ramp and then go up a hill to stop you. we were about a metre away from the end.

Had a good bbq there, after which I promptly fell asleep on a flattened cardboard box. I was so tired.

Yesterday I woke up with a migraine too, so I slept all of yesterday pretty much. I’m working this arvo, time to get some cash. My comments have been getting spammed with crappy jerks and their :gay:”buy these drugs” links . Freaks. Dean - can you please delete them for me?

Bus-literate

Monday, November 22nd, 2004

Hey, so I hired a car, which worked out great.

I will say this: independance is something that is vastly underrated. I’m not one for frequent going-outs on a Friday - mostly I’m too exhausted from the week just finished - but not having the option to go out on Friday really plays on one’s mind. By Saturday, I could stand it no longer - I had to get out of the house.

I caught a bus into town, which was ok, until I realized that once you’ve had a coffee and cake, town is just like any other suckhole. So, there and then, I hired a car. Independance regained.

First thing I did was head out to M&D’s for a dog-related visit. That was great, and I watched the final 2 hours of that day’s play of the cricket. I showed M&D my shipping module, which I was working on Friday night, and they were suitably impressed. How could they not be, you know? It was genius. John called and invited me over for a Sopranos evening. I was up for that like never before. Went over to John’s where Pina Coladas were being constructed over ice and that set the tone for the evening. He and Tina are moving into a house together, which is inconvenient for me, but good for them, or so they tell me. Oh almost forgot - dinner was from Thai Phoenix, easily one of the best Thai places in Brisbane. I didn’t realize that they delivered until the guy showed up with a bagfull of Thai food asking for money. Maybe it was just an unlikely coincidence.

Sunday I headed out to Vivienne’s for a Tupperware party, which was great. Vivienne makes the best food, and there was plenty of it to go around at the party. Had some very interesting discussions with her hubby, Ian, about airconditioning. I’m still undecided.

Grocery shopping Sunday afternoon, and italian sausages with fried onions and capsicum on slices of fresh bread with tomato sauce and mozzarella (or, in Soprano-ese “mortadell”) for dinner. Sometimes the simple meals are the best.

Today I hit up mum to have lunch with me in town, since I had to take the car back. It was nice, we both had cheap and cheerful laksa from some noodle bar there. I caught the bus back to work, which makes my second bus trip this year.

Another entry

Friday, November 19th, 2004

I’m pretty hungry so it might have to be a short one today.

When I left y’all on Tuesday night, I was going to a training course on Wednesday morning. I did and it was great. Funny - I haven’t driven in traffic for ages, and I was quite suprised that it took so long to get from my place to Bardon. Anyway, there were 7 or 8 of us in the class, including one girl who was just gorgeous. Like the kind-of gorgeous that makes your eyes follow her automatically. She was a real estate girl, whose job as far as I could gather was getting people to sign contracts on high-rise apartments. I would’ve signed if she’d asked me. :happysad:

Leyton invited himself around for dinner on Wednesday … I made my awesome sausage pasta. I think I’ve spoken about it on here before, search if you care.

Thursday was a pretty obscenly busy day at work - a sickie on Tuesday and being out of the office on Wednesday meant a lot of catching up. I had a hamburger for lunch which was pretty good, and Vivienne gave me a lift home. My car’s in the shop, and I’m tempted to get a rental for the weekend. Actually, it looks like its cheaper to rent a car every weekend than it is to own one. How crap is that?

Should be a good weekend - I’ve got Vivienne’s Tupperware party to go to, so there’ll be even more tupperware in the cupboard shortly. I’m also considering an airconditioner at home, and can’t decide whether to get a cheap crappy one or an expensive good one. I hate deciding that kinda stuff.

communication from a celebrity!!!OMG11!!!1!ONE ELEVEN

Friday, November 19th, 2004

G’day,
I’m so excited!! :D I’m making this auction on Jake’s ebay account. I had the audacity - the audacity mind you - to email it to Rob Cockerham, and he emailed me back!!

His email was short, but I expected that with Rob’s e-fame, and it said:
“That is great! I’ll try to link to it.

-Rob”

So I could end up on cockeyed.com! Unfortunately, there’s only 12 hours left.

I’m giddy - can you tell? :P

Commence Brain Dump

Tuesday, November 16th, 2004

Whoa, can you believe it’s Tuesday night already? Ok, so … I’m in a training thing tomorrow (Wednesday) and there’ll be no update then, so I thought I’d whip one out now, while mum finishes making the sticky date cake and icecream for desert at family night. Heh heh. Family night is great.

So, Friday I had a super early night because the markets were “GO” for Saturday morning. Rob and Nadia picked me up, and we met up with Weeden and Jenny, and one of their daughters, Eddie. Had a lovely market, and then a lovely breakfast @ Harvey’s. At the greasies of spoons, The Roudabout, last week, I decided on a whim to have a milkshake with breakfast - this was great last week, but was a mistake at Harvey’s. Just not the same, you know?

So, I was pretty full after breakfast, and took an easy early afternoon before heading to Glenn and Lara’s for a Tupperware party, after convincing Michael to come along as well. Tupperware festivities turned into dinner and booze, and Glenn kicked our asses at Balderdash. Anyone know what a rockoon is? Also of note - GLara also like to be referred to as Mayor McCheese and First Lady McCheese. They’re strange in many ways.

So had a boozy night and caught a cab home. Blacky took me to get my car, and I drove on to M&Ds, where I had an unpleasant lunch before a laze about with the dogs. They were freshly bathed and very cute.

Monday was a pretty quiet day at work, but I got a lot done. I took a sickie today, but I felt better as the day wore on.

And now you’re up to date.

Stupid Vegas

Friday, November 12th, 2004

Can you believe it’s Friday already? How fabulous is that? And a market day tomorrow to boot. Ah, contentment.

So yesterday I went to the valley to get my car assessed for repairs, and it’s all approved etc, so it’ll be going in for repairs next Thursday. Took a while, but I’m glad that’s sorted.

Today I’m having lunch with Leyton and Tim, and it’s my turn for buying. Red Rooster is on the menu, I’l leaning towards a tropical pack or a quarter chicken and chips, despite not really liking chips. I’ve ranted long and in earnest on this topic before, so excuse me for not going into it in depth again.

We got screwed slightly on the USA Trip 05 front - Las Vegas is expecting 135 000 people to attend the CONEXPO-CON (the construction and construction materials industries convention) from the 15-19 March. Hotel prices have increased to correspond with this - US$400 per night at most hotels on the strip. We were planning on being there on the nights on the 13th, 14th and 15th, which is right on the ramp-up of the stupid prices, so it looks like we’ll be staying off-strip. Not too bad, but while I was hoping to pay US$100 per night is more likely. That sucks.
