The Bet

Wednesday, June 30th, 2004

Today’s a very important day at my house. If there’s not a new credit card for Blacky in our mailbox by this evening, I will owe Blacky a drink. Even if there’s not though, it’ll still provide an excellent opportunity to take the bin out.

Happy New Financial Year’s Eve! I tried to sleep early last night, to take full advantage of my night off from family night, but couldn’t sleep. I ended up staying awake past 12:30 and was up this morning shortly after 7am. I’m tired, extremely tired.

I thought about just turning over and going straight back to sleep, but I need to preserve my tiredness through the day so that I’ll sleep like a baby tonight. I’ve got it all figured out. :naughty:

Congrats to Bryce who’s finished uni now. Not long before he heads off to Canberra now, too. Huh. Time flies.

Terrible Tuesday

Tuesday, June 29th, 2004

Hey, it’s Terrible Tuesday today at work - I’m here all by myself, which so far, hasn’t sucked too terribly. But the afternoon’s the worst. It drags so s … l … o … w… l ….y …

Last night I completely geeked out and sat at my computer until I went to bed at 8:30pm. Slept till 9am this morning. again. I’ve just been really, really tired lately. I don’t know why, but am open to suggestions. Some people say that you get tired by sleeping too much, but I ask those people if they would please shut up. Thanks.

Tonight’s family night. I don’t really feel like driving all the way over to the north side, but it’ll be ok. I look forward to playing with my dogs though. And mum’s at work today, so maybe she’ll keep me company on the drive there if I pick her up from work.

I’m deaf in one ear again. So annoying.

Left this till pretty late, huh?

Monday, June 28th, 2004

It’s been a pretty good Monday for me, here. Monday is my second-slowest day (second only to the horrible Tuesday) at work, but having stuff to do helped keep me focused.

Good weekend - drinks and stuff on Friday, and an early night in preparation for the markets early Saturday. Had a good market - bought some great stuff including the fudge I’d thought about, and Mum bought a kilo of sea scallops - but was exhausted from the crazy early morning required to get there.

Had a snooze Saturday afternoon, and organized people for board games that evening. Princes of Florence was taught to Tim R and Glenn, so we got 5 player-goodness. Tim left, so then we played another 4-player game. I still haven’t won a game of this.

Sunday, I continued watching a heap of “Family Guy” which is hilarious, and made Thai food for dinner. Blacky has indicated that he’s getting sick of rice, so cuisine may be changing from modern Asian to European fusion in the chateau de Chuckler quite soon.

Hold onto your hats

TGIF. It’s been a pretty good Friday though - this morning I did some unrelated-to-work stuff and there was noone in the office to make me feel bad about it until about 10:30 when Joon came in. Vivienne had called in sick earlier in the day, so .. unrelated-to-work stuff needs doing no more.

What was it, you’re all dying to know? I don’t know if I want to tell you. Oh ok. It’s some design/specification work being done on a website I’m helping out with. And that’s all you’re going to get out of me, aight? :naughty:

We had a pretty good game of soccer last night, and finished with a 5-5 draw. Woo played too, and kinda lucky he did - Craig hurt his often-troubling-him-of-late knee, and Fraser broke his toe. We were down to 6 players by game-end. Played better than we have for quite a while. Oh, I may be dropped from the Monday night team. Oh well, my knees complained a lot about playing two games per week anyway - sooo much bruising. Perhaps I’ll get reselected for that some day. /wistful sigh

Tomorrow’s market day. Mum’s keen, so I have to pick her up at 7:30am. Last time round I bought fudge, which was awesome. I might do that again. If they sold lemon butter, mum would be in heaven, but I don’t think I’ve seen anywhere that does. Hmm, maybe I could set up a stall and do it? Of course not. But someone should.

I can’t believe how little I have planned for this weekend. I might spend some time sorting through and deleting some stuff on my PC. Hold on to your hats, that’s obviously going to be HUUUUUGE!

A tip for those that make curry

Thursday, June 24th, 2004

Hellooooo, and welcome to Thursday. Thursday, sweet Thursday, when the cleaners come into work and clean our filthy office. When indoor soccer is played and usually lost. Ah, Thursday.

Had the family over last night. Having Bryce and Callun over is par for the course, but M&D rarely visit at W’Gabba, so it was nice to have them. I made pseudo-butter chicken (no butter, more vegies, less richness and more chilli), and ordered naan bread from the local indian shop. Can I confess something here - the potatos that I threw in at the last minute and tasted great? Tinner. I know, can you believe it? They’re the new hotness for curry making, I’ve decided. Very nice. I’d been wanting decorating advice from someone who was going to offer constructive solutions, and M&D did that in spades.

Nothing much else happened, yesterday. Oh, I did have lunch with Leyton and we watched the first episode of his new DVD, The Tick. It’s funny, starring that guy with the awesome voice who does the voice of Kronk in the Emporor’s New Groove.
I’ve got Snod’s birthday present sorted already, and I’ll mail it today. It works out so well when someone practically tells you what they want. All you have to do is get it and send it before they buy it themself.

Assurance, right here.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

I can assure you that there was a perfectly good reason for me to not make an entry here yesterday. I was sick, so there.

What did I accomplish on my sick day? Quite a bit, all told. I watched a couple of episodes of The Family Guy, saw Finding Nemo on DVD (which was completely awesome BTW) and generally lay around, resting up and getting well again.

This morning I got a new tyre put on my spare, and had the most worn tyre moved to “spare”. I had hoped that this would reduce the road noise I’ve been suffering a bit of lately, but no dice. Apparently there’s a lot of feathering on the tyres, despite getting balances/alignments/rotations done semi-regularly. It also took AGES, for one friggin’ tyre. An hour, in which time another lady there got all four tyres done. Cwazy.

So I’m back at work today, feeling quite a bit better, and wearing my new jumper, which I bought on the weekend. I look quite dapper. M&D are coming around for dinner tonight, their first time to my place for ages. I’m going to cook my version of butter chicken and christen my new pot, which looks a little wierd after interacting with the dishwasher, but I’m sure it’s fine.

Plenty of Scratch

Monday, June 21st, 2004

Monday already eh? Hasn’t it been cold lately? What’s the deal with that?

Friday night was John’s place for Sopranos and curry. He always makes the best Korma, and supplemented this with a bought Butter Chicken and naan bread. I took a bottle of vino and some cheesecake for desert, and the meal was great. John’s down to 1 sofa, which made things a little cosy, but we still watched 2 episodes of Season 4 on DVD. Only 2 episodes of Season 4 to go, which is great, but also a little sad - the perfect time to use the “happysad” emoticon - :happysad: Oh, there was some comedy on SBS late Friday night, a Chinese-American called Margret Cho. She was funny in that dirty-joke kinda way, but her jokes took a…g…e…s to tell, because she kept waiting for the stupid audience to stop laughing before delivering the next joke. I watched it for maybe an hour, with about 1/2 hour of acutal monologue. It got more painful than watching Gretel Killeen clap her hands in time with her own voice.

Saturday I was up bright and early with a big day’s shopping planned. I bought my pot that I wanted first … 16L, 4mm thick Aluminium. It’s industrial and I love it. Executive Chef on Merrivale Street - that’s a fabulous shop. You could seriously blow some scratch in there, know what I’m saying?

Then I bought a new pullover. Nice, but more money than anyone should spend on keeping warm. Then I bought groceries and headed home, just in time for the Lions. I was completely stuffed though, and fell asleep nap-style before the game finished. Then I made pasta and got a bit drunk watching the Rugby and then the Broncos in Rugby League. Fell asleep before the end of that, too.

Sunday, I went to M&D’s for dog visitation. My aunt and her kids came over a bit later, and you could plainly see that our dogs no longer fear kids, thanks muchly to “Benny the Lion Tamer” who stayed at our house last week. Ahaha. Mum and Woo made Lemon Butter, which mum ate practically like soup, such is her love for it. Eventually, I went home and watched the documentary about the lion that kept adopting deer calves as her cub. Very interesting, but told by perhaps the most annoying film-maker on the planet. I fell asleep long before Gorran got a chance to do his thing, unfortuantely.

Woot! Short Week :)

Friday, June 18th, 2004

Hello, hello … isn’t it great to get a short week immediately following a long weekend? I think so.

Look, I know that my entries to this blog have been a little on the light side of late, and I’m truly sorry about that. This is going to be another short one, however. :happysad:

I have very few plans this weekend. I’m going to John’s tonight for Sopranos and dinner which should be great. Tina’s also going to be there (despite having to close her eyes for the violent bits) and Chris as well (who has to have roughly 4 series of episodes explained to him because he’s not watched any of them previously), so it’ll be quite an event. Note to self: make sure you ask if anything needs to be brought along.

I had a doctor’s appointment in Stafford this morning, which means I visited home on the way to work. Convinced mum to let me appropriate (steal) some of their food for breakfast, and more for lunch at work. Score.

On the weekend, I think I will cook and store another curry. I might be persuaded to buy a new pot to cook it in. I really like my current pot, except that it doesn’t have a lid that fits properly and it’s not as big as I would like. I used to have a big, hefty pot, but it was crappy quality and thin metal. :ugh: Stuff would burn to the bottom of it without even trying.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. Catch y’all on the flip side of the weekend.

Game-O-Graph #2

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

Game-O-Graph for State of Origin 2, 2004 inspired by Rob Cockerham’s Game-O-Graph idea. Game-O-Graph for State of Origin 1 is here.

Was a good night … Glenn, Leyton, Blacky and I watched the game, and then watched World’s Worst Sporting Disasters. Woo hoo! Soccer tonight at some time. Looking forward to the weekend.

Short and Sweet

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

Oh dear, look at the time. State of Origin at my place tonight if people want. See you there!
