Pleasant like a horse!

Friday, February 28th, 2003

What can you say on a weblog when you previous 24-hour period involves work and sleep?

I’m here a touch earlier today, because I had to call some dude from Idaho. Waking early was no problem whatsoever, as I pretty much slept constantly from the moment I got home yesterday evening. Yeah. At 5:45pm.

I did wake long enough to change my clothes, eat a little, watch Welcher and Welcher, before heading back to bed. That explains, Bek, why I was able to take your phone call.

Today is Viv’s last day before she goes on holidays for 2 weeks. It’s also Jaime’s last day, as his internship has finished. So the next couple of weeks will be just me and Edward. Ahh, won’t that be pleasant?

The news in brief …

Thursday, February 27th, 2003

Tee hee, I’m naughty. I slept in this morning.

I’ve resumed working on my boat.

That is all.

Oh, and this, which is definately NOT WORK SAFE.

Promotional Man to the Rescue

Wednesday, February 26th, 2003

I can’t believe that it’s my job to surf the web and look for various promotional items that we can use to make people remember us. It’s an absolute blast, and I’m loving it. It’s like going shopping on work time with someone else’s money.

I wanted to go home early yesterday, but Edward whinged about being left alone with the work experience students. So I stayed back and chatted about the Brainshare stuff etc. Ended up firing an email off to Meg to see if she and Erin wanted to booth-babe for us. That’d be fun.

Family night, if you can call it that with only one other family member in Brisbane at the moment, was last night. Woo has recently applied for a job at the casino, so that’s exciting. Simba and Chaz were both given bones which caused no amount of arguing as each got too close to the other for comfort.

At least I’ve got clean clothes in my cupboard now

Working back last night on a little project, then got really pissed off at having to work back by myself, so finished the thing half-assedly and went home and took a good solid belt of Vodka before turning my phone off and deciding to enjoy my evening.

Callun was there when I got home - he was in transit between two places and thought he’d drop in for TSLOU - and that was nice. He ate our food, drank our drink, but was good company. John also rocked up for the TSLOU gathering (albeit half an hour late) so a good time was had by all.

Blacky had made Beef Strog, and it was truly a work of art.

Cricket was great, in the end a real shame that I had to go to bed to preserve my ability to work today.

Oh, and I got a really nice card from Danni and Jay for my birthday. Wasn’t that nice of them?

Boogie Nights … Got to keep on Dancin’

Monday, February 24th, 2003

Wow - this weekend was completely HUGE. Thanks go out to those who called from afar specifically to wish me a HB - Snod from Perth, Lisa from USA, M&D from Tasmania and Bryce from Hamburg (although I missed his call as I was out - d’oh!).

Saturday was an early morning rise, with the markets scheduled. Dodgy weather threatened the day, but it was mostly pleasant enough. Got some great tomatos and mushrooms for the bbq on Sunday, and had a pretty nice morning. Breakfast with the market crew at Harvey’s was nice, as usual, and after that I made my way to M&D’s place, so that I could have lunch at the ‘Foo with Woo. Great feed, with a complimentary starter for my birthday. Lovely.

Oh, I scored a pasta machine from M&D, so that afternoon I made a mess in our kitchen making the worst pasta ever made. It was like 2 minute noodles, but when I told Rob of this mis-adventure, he assured me that he would take me under his wing and show me how it is done properly. Whew.

Anyway, Blacky and I went to see The Rules of Attraction I think it is called, and it was complete CRAP. Dawson from Dawson’s Creek as the bad drug-dealer-dead-on-the-inside person, and the amazingly hot Shannyn Sossamon as someone else, but it was not a good movie. Continues the tradition of bad movies on my birthday - I recall that Bek, Johno W and I went to see Boogie Nights on my birthday a couple of years ago - now that was wierd.

Sunday went pretty flawlessly. John and I picked up the bus from the good folks at Budget early that morning, drove it back to my place, loaded up everyone, went to Maroochydore, unloaded everything onto the boat, boated and fished for some time, ate like kings and queens, returned back to shore, loaded up the bus, and went home. Bek, Leyton, Blacky and I then caught 8 Mile on SVCD before I exhaustedly fell asleep.

BTW, our hot water’s back. I don’t know when it left, but last night’s shower was considerably less good than this morning’s.

Happy Last Day

Friday, February 21st, 2003

Happy last day to Bek, who is finishing up at her job today.

Viv spent the morning cooking me lunch for today, so we’ll all take lunch together and feast on her bounty. What a lovely thought.

Had lunch with Leyton yesterday, watched The Office. Finished my unattended install of Windows XP (well, finished the first version, anyway). Found a site that makes bandanas, so submitted an enquiry to them. Watched Welcher and Welcher, tried to phone M&D (no answer) and eventually went to bed for an average nights sleep. I woke this morning feeling all of my 23 years and 364 days.

Brownie’s Coast Watch says that it will be raining this weekend. Perfect.

Birfday: Sortid

Thursday, February 20th, 2003

I’m sure those who improved my webhits by madly loading my page every hour on the hour yesterday were quite disappointed that I wasn’t able to update … I was at a training seminar on Trade Show marketing in preparation for the big April hoopla in Salt Lake.

Good seminar, learnt some good stuff. We’re likely to ignore a lot of it, under the “but IT is different” argument, which is a shame, but I rate this seminar highly as an exercise. Good stuff.

It did mean, however, with my boss returning from Sydney yesterday, that I had to go into work that evening to debrief. Ended up working my ass off, and not getting out of here until 10:30pm.

The boat. Ok, I’ve got a final list here.

How
Ah, the million dollar question. I’ve vowed to sort this out RIGHT NOW!
Firstly, Glenn and Lara are already there.
Rob and Nadia W. are driving, but don’t have to:
I’ve hired a minivan that seats 12, so everyone’s invited to come along. I suppose we’ll be departing my place-ish at about 8:30am?

I believe that’s everything. Oh, can someone with a credit card come with me to pick up the van that morning and pay the deposit? You’ll get it back …

The following takes place …

Tuesday, February 18th, 2003

Last night, our worst case scenario came true. Leyton won his $5 for his Jack Bauer dies scenario.

Ok, ok. I may be giving the game away here, but allow me to explain: he doesn’t really die. Leyton made a crappy-mation of “The following occurs between 12:00am and 12:01 am on the day after the Califronia presidential primary …” so that he could win his bet. It was funny, and a testament to how much time that boy wastes.

Yeah, last night was the weekly TSLOU party, so while Blacky shopped for guest staples (including coke, popcorn and the like) I made a delicious honey chicken disharoo, so that when Bek arrived at 8:30, we could get down to the serious business of watching TSLOU relatively uninterrupted, except that John called to say he couldn’t make it, and when Bek’s need to subsist entirely on ice cream would allow.

Leyton rocked up in the final few minutes and did that irritating thing we he inserts Evan’s Whopper Value Meal spiel into his closing remarks. Grrr. We then knocked over a 24 Ep, before Bek announced that she needed to go home, but we peer-pressured her into staying for another, and under duress, she stayed. Late night for a Monday, that’s for sure.

Going for lunch with Leyton today, pizza is on the menu, and we’ll also finish up season 1 of The Office, which premieres here on the ABC this Thursday. Also must remember to watch Welcher and Welcher again this Thursday on the ABC too.

Feeling Older and Wiser

Sunday, February 16th, 2003

I’m up right now thinking about my birthday. Perhaps that isn’t the real reason I’m up - in a moment of foolishness I took a nap this afternoon, breaking the cardinal rule of Sunday relaxation - but it’s been weighing on my mind.

23 wasn’t a good year for me … it started with significant promise, but on the whole was a disappointment. The wierd thing is that I have no regrets over the past year, and would probably do the same things over again given the opportunity. Here’s to 24 being a better year than the last. /drink

So, this weekend is the big hoopla. I really want a relaxed affair with a carefree sentiment. Glenn and Lara have offered to take care of the food, so this weekend, I’ll pick up an obscene quantity of Coke, Water and beer. Perhaps some non-coke beverages to average operations out a little. I also plan on bringing sliced tomato from the food market.

I want to sort out the car situation - there’s no point heaps of people driving, am I right? Beks’ volunteered, so she’s on driving duty for sure. Glenn and Lara will already be there, so they don’t need any consideration.

Here’s who’s left:
Me
Rob & Nadia
Blacky
Leyton
Carmen P
Callun
John

So we need a few more drivers, as Bek can only take 3 of the above. Any volunteers?

In other news, I now have short hair. I was getting sick of needing to wear bandanas to keep my flowing mane from my eyes, so I went to M&D’s and got Callun to do it for me. It’s not a very good job, but it’ll do for the moment.

TSLOU is on tonight … the usual suspects are invited to watch if they want to.

24, back on the rails, baby

Friday, February 14th, 2003

That’s right, you read it here first. We’re back in the swing of 24-action. I had talked myself into going to soccer last night, despite the enormity of my tiredness, but when I got home from work, people had already left. Dejected, I made curry.

I was picking Bek up for the festivities at around 8pm-ish, and we were back home in time to accidently catch a new show on the ABC, a comedy legal drama, Welcher & Welcher starring Shaun Micallef. It was tres funny, and wil make it onto my list of regular viewing.

24 was great. Kim is still stupid. Jack is still cool. George Mason is still a dweeb. Ahh, sweet continuity. They could’ve made a better fist of explaining how far after the first series this show actually was, as Kim seems to have aged by years, yet Jack (judging only by the size of his beard) has aged weeks. I don’t know. The deliciousness of the apple pie (but sadly, not Hi Pie) and icecream was a good counterpoint to the on-screen chaos.

So the boat thing is filling up. It’s got a capacity of, like, 12 maximum, so I probably should be keeping track of how many people have RSVPed so I can close registration.

Here’s who we’ve got:
Me
Glenn & Lara
Bek
Rob & Nadia
Blacky
Leyton
Carmen P
Callun
which makes, like 10, but when Bek and I counted last night, we seemed to have more than this. :/ Please don’t be offended if I forgot you, it’s just that you either haven’t RSVPed, or I secretly hate you and don’t want you to come anyway, ok?

Oh, and Happy Valentines, or whatever.
